Please Support our 2019/20 Salary Survey

So far this year, we have had very few MPAAA members take this year's salary survey.  Please understand that without member input, the report will be of little use. Please consider taking the survey before it closes on January 31st.

All data collected through the survey is anonymous, and there is no personal data shared in the results. Also, any reported information coming from a single individual is redacted from the report. We take privacy very seriously and will make sure your data is stored and handled with appropriate safeguards.

Winter Certification Courses Now Available

As we continue to make sure the pupil accounting community is well-trained and prepared for the challenges of their work, MPAAA is proud to offer the following certification classes this winter. We've selected the classes that had the greatest need among our members. You'll note below that each class is offered multiple times, in different parts of the state, as well as in a webinar format for those leery of driving in our winter weather!

The following classes are available:

Introduction to Pupil Auditing

This introduction to pupil accounting auditing focuses on learning the basics of preparing for an audit, acronyms, quality control reviews, and tips related to the audit narrative. Embedded in this session are tips on ways to connect and work with various officials with the Michigan Department of Education (MDE).

Note that this session is designed for those new to Pupil Accounting, or those wishing to review the basics of auditing a count. This session fulfills the Introduction to Pupil Auditing requirement for those pursuing Pupil Accounting Auditor (PPA) or Pupil Accounting Specialist (PAS) certification tracks.

Legislative Primer

Understanding the processes and procedures of pupil accounting requires a basic understanding of school funding, including knowledge of the State School Aid Act, the School Code, and Administrative Rules. The way these elements intertwine drives the content of the Pupil Accounting Manual and the Pupil Auditing manual.

Data Quality 1

Designed for those doing student data entry, this session will cover:

  • What the data is used for, and why it matters to get it right!
  • The benefits of high-quality data and the costs of low-quality data.
  • Techniques to make your job as easy as possible to get the data right.
  • Data Privacy requirements and what you need to know to protect your student’s privacy.

The tips and tricks shared in this session will help you get through the data-entry part of your job quickly and easily, so you can change hats, and get on with the rest of the day!

Data Quality 2

The second in the Data Quality series focuses on data entry-getting things right at the source. The quality of data will improve when all staff understands how the data will be used and how data become information. This workshop includes information about coordinating data quality at the district level, identifying data flow and cycles, common data entry issues, the importance of communication, and the roles of various district staff in the process.

State Reporting 101

This 6-hour session takes an extended look at state reporting requirements and resources needed to complete the two General Collections, the End of Year Collection, TSDL, GAD and discuss the various special programs available to students today that impact state reporting (Section 25e, Section 23a, Early College, etc.) In addition, state reporting goes hand-in-hand with the instructional reporting completed by BAA.

Participants will learn about the important connections and deadlines between the Michigan School Data System (MSDS) and BAA reports. Participants will also receive information about MISchool Data and other data sources that will help you communicate better with administrators and teachers regarding data in your district. This is a required course for those seeking certification as a Specialist in Educational Data.

Winter 2020 Pupil Accounting Bootcamps

Our 3-day Pupil Accounting Bootcamp, which has been so well-received by those who have taken it in the past, is being offered twice this winter.  These workshops are designed for those in their first year or two of pupil accounting and are geared to get someone new to the field up and running in time for the fall collection season.

Attendees who complete the Bootcamp will have 5 of the required courses for the Pupil Accounting Specialist completed and have a great start on their MSBO certification. Each attendee will receive full printouts of all presentations as well as additional references and documentation in a handy reference binder.

Our first winter session is being held from Monday, Febrary 3rd to Wednesday, February 5th, at the MPAAA offices in Lansing.  You can get more information or register for this session by clicking HERE.

The second session (which is the same as the first) is being held at the MPAAA officers in Lansing from Monday to Wednesday, February 24th to 26th. For more information on this session, you can click HERE.

The cost is $395 for MPAAA members and $495 for non-members for either session.
