Description & Overview

Please join school attendance and truancy professionals from across the state at the Michigan Pupil Accounting and Attendance Association's (MPAAA) Attendance and Truancy Workshop. We will be holding the conference at Lansing Community College's West Campus, On Thursday, March 2nd, 2017 from 9:00 - 3:30. Registration for this Conference is now open on the MPAAA's website.

8:30 - 9:00   Registration and coffee

9:00 - 10:00   Pathway 2 Potential - Speaker:  Ta'Nisha Carter, Policy, Planning, and Legislative Services, Michigan Department of Health and Human Services - DHHS has placed success coaches in local schools to improve attendance, connect families and build partnerships to remove barriers to attendance early on before they result in truancy and negatively impact learning.

  1. Understanding Homelessness's Effect on School Attendance  - Speaker: Beth McCullough, Adrian Public Schools - What does the McKinney-Vento Act do to help students who find themselves homeless?
  2. Truancy in Cyber Schools - Jenny Lawson, Michigan Connections Academy - How does the Compulsory Attendance and Truancy Laws affect cyber schools and how do cyber schools address truancy?
  3. Truancy 101: Understanding the compulsory attendance laws - Speaker: Carolyn Claerhout, Oakland ISD - What are the current rules and how are they implemented and enforced in various areas.

Registration & Hotel Information

Again this year, we've allowed non-members of the Association to register for the conference at the member rate of $139. This is to allow those who have not attended MPAAA events previously to see what benefits membership might have for them.

For those who would prefer to not register online using a credit card, you can download a form HERE to complete and mail in with a check for your registration fee.

MPAAA has secured a block of rooms at the Spring Hill Suites for the night of March 1st, for those who may wish to stay overnighjt., at 111 South Marketplace Blvd., in Lansing 48917. Call them at (517) 627-6002 to secure your room at the $109 rate referencing the MPAAA Truancy Conference.

Cancellation Policy & Contact Information

Members and guests will be accessed a cancellation fee of $50 for event registrations canceled up to four weeks prior to the event start date. There will be no refunds for cancellations occurring within four weeks of an event's start date.

Please contact our Executive Director to request cancellation of a workshop or conference which you are registered or for any other event / MPAAA related question.

*NO REFUNDS* will be granted if cancellation is after February 2, 2017.
